Let's Talk Treatment
Tired of sensory integration introductory and evaluation courses that never tell you what to DO? This course is for you!

Let's Talk Treatment is designed for OT's who have knowledge of sensory integration theory and want to develop treatment strategies. This full day course will cover treatment for Sensory Modulation Dysfunction and Dyspraxia. Lecture will also integrate alternatives such as auditory interventions, FRE introduction, ALERT program, and more.

Credits: Participants will be provided with a Certificate of Attendance that is prepared with the information required by NBCOT for PDU credits. One hour of attendance is equivalent to 1 PDU. Course will provide 7 PDU credits. PDUs are accepted by NBCOT (see
www.nbcot.org for more detailed and specific information).

Course Objectives:
1. Participants will learn and understand sensory integration treatment techniques for sensory modulation dysfunction and dyspraxia.
2. Participants will identify and select effective home program/sensory diet activities for children with sensory modulation dysfunction and dyspraxia.
3. Participants will develop modifications and compensations for children with sensory modulation dysfunction and dyspraxia.
4. Participants will be introduced to the integration of alternative treatment methods that coordinate with sensory integration treatment.

The following courses have been designed for parents, but therapists interested in an introductory course are more than welcome to attend as well:

Strategies for Sensory Integration
This workshop will provide the participant with an introductory understanding of sensory processing and how it impacts on a child at home and school. It will include:
  • An overview of the process of sensory integration
  • A description of the types of problems seen
  • Strategies to help children in school and at home

Strategies for Picky Eaters
This workshop will provide the participant with a step by step approach to address the most challenging problem feeders. It will include an overview of:
  • The normal development of feeding
  • Sensory integration as it relates to feeding
  • "Typical" picky eaters versus "problem feeders"
  • Assessment of feeding skills
  • Island Therapies' Food Repertoire Expansion Program (FRE)
  • Treatment strategies and carryover

APRIL 2008
Island Therapies is pleased to announce its new mentoring program. The owners of Island Therapies are Occupational and Speech therapists with over 30 years of experience and have broad and extensive training in many aspects of treatment and evaluation of children. We are offering mentoring in sensory integration, problem feeders/picky eaters, handwriting, evaluations, oral sensory motor dysfunction, auditory interventions, attention problems, school based issues, funding sources, and many more topics of pertinence to therapists working today.

There are several learning options to meet your needs and individual style of learning.

One-on-One: Discussions where you can sit with a speech or occupational therapist and ask questions regarding general concepts or specific cases (no full names please). This type of session is individualized and directed by your needs. You are expected to bring your questions to us.

Fee: $100 for 1st hour, second hour $75.00 (discounts will be offered for regularly scheduled session, such as once weekly/monthly).

Shadowing: This is a session where you can observe treatment in action at the Island Therapies office. It is scheduled in one hour blocks of time or for a full day. You will shadow one or two therapists who are treating the types of children you are interested in learning more about.
Fee: Full day, $175.00
One hour, $50.00

Itinerant Mentoring: This is a mentoring session where a therapist will come to your facility and consult and/or treat children of your choosing (copies of prescriptions and signed parental consent must be provided for each child). This session can also include group or individual mentoring. Fees for this mentoring will be determined based on time and distance involved.

Classes/Courses: Island Therapies will be presenting regular courses for therapists as well as ones for parents. These will be announced by email, flyers, and on this website. Check back frequently for information. You may also leave your email with us to be placed on our mailing list.

Itinerant Courses/Lectures: Island Therapies is available to offer courses at your facility for therapists and for SEPTA. Fees will be determined based upon time and distance.
